I am a creature of habit, I do relatively the same classes each week at the gym & near enough the same sort of exercises. I do mix up my classes on a weekly basis, so I’ll do a mixture of spinning, HIIT training, and conditioning classes. However this year I wanted to start a new fitness goal, to build my strength and improve my flexibility.
Mixing up my Fitness Routine
I have started noticing my body constantly aches after the gym, and not stretching enough after classes is one of the key reasons. I have been going for bi weekly massages to help this, but also stretching and moving my body more is super important. Previously I had taken part in a few body balance classes which is a mixture of Yoga, Tai Chi and Pilates. I had never really got into them before and would always think ‘what a waste of time’. But I’m really enjoying doing something new and challenging myself. After recently developing a small knee injury it was time I lay off the high intensity exercises as much, and focused more on building my strength and flexibility.
I started going to these classes as of last November, and tried to do it once a week, mainly to stretch and unwind. I found it actually really therapeutic, especially taking part in a morning class, my mood would be instantly lifted for the day ahead. As the weeks passed I noticed my flexibility was also improving and I was actually getting better week by week. Most of my other classes are very high intensity so doing something like this doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll break into a crazy sweat (although I definitely have had to wipe my face a fair few times) but it’s such a great class for stretching, toning and improving flexibility. I’ve typically been doing this kind of class on a rest day. This is usually a Friday, to make sure I am still moving on my days off from the gym. Working sitting at a desk every day, your posture can really be affected so this should also improve too.
Matalan’s Souluxe Activewear
Now, if I hadn’t have put Matalan in the title of this post I don’t think you would have thought it was high street activewear! I absolutely LOVE the Matalan Souluxe fitness range. There’s nothing better than affordable and practical activewear and this collection ticks both of those boxes. I love updating my gym wardrobe regularly (yes I actually have a wardrobe JUST for gym clothes) so I don’t want to be spending a fortune all the time. I love exercising in long leggings, usually printed ones, so these are perfect! When I go to a stretching class I will usually wear a loose baggy top and a jacket to start off with until I get a bit warmer. I love the longer length of this hoody. I’ve seen them appearing a lot recently at my gym so I’m so glad I’ve finally got my hands on one! These trainers are also perfect for any low intensity exercise and super comfy too!
What are your fitness goals this year? Whether you’re starting exercising, or like me, updating your current routine, I’d love to hear about it! I’m always on the look out for new ways, tips and tricks to improve my fitness! You can check out my top 5 fitness motivation tips here too.
